Many a web site has been left to the family hobbyist only to be abandonded early on or lacking in the aesthetic quality you expected. Sound familiar? Ever wonder why some sites have "it" and others just don't ? A lot has to do with the type of computer/browser language the site is built with and there a few out there to say the least. There are some very high quality designed sites that just don't render correctly in every browser. Here's why.
In general terms, there are really only four viable browsers on the market that the many are familiar with. They are (in no particular order) Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Safari. Those being the big four. Each of these has a build number or a revision number and if your like me, then they are all in the "current" build, however if your like most, then updating your browser is a useless part of owning a computer. So, heres the issue. The tools in which web sites are built are the high end of usefullness (even though you could build a really high end site with only notepad or your preferred text editor, but thats too much to explain.) The different "have to have" tools account for the design freak in all of us and scream you just have to have this newest widget. People expect that, right? I mean the "smart phone" out grows itself faster than a baby out grows diapers, but thats the technology (and yes it doesn't have to be "updated" just turned in with a new contract) so ...heres the problem. When you design a site, you have to consider all the top browsers in your build (including smart phones). You then have to account for the least common denominator (to a point) on which browser build your web site will support, and most suprisingly; you need to account for the monitor resolution (as in 640 x 480 which was the norm for years) but with most high end flat screen monitors and the viewing area; that size can render to about the size of a business card when loaded on a large screen monitor with nominal resolution. So do you build a "liquid" layout where as the site stretches to the dimensions of the browser and renders correctly all the way to IE 6, or do you create a fixed width layout so the bottom may need to be scrolled or the whole left side of the frame exists in another dimension .
If flash is your bag, well then you have to use a version of flash that works on most to all browsers, and currently all apple i-phones and some other "i" products refuse to use flash and so they require a javascripted version or HTML5 (which is not quite ready for prime time) to use correctly.
Javascript is the engine behind JQUERY and Ajax and JSON, so in essence they are fancier versions of a good script, but javascript is generally used as a client side browser rendered script. Meaning that it is rendered by the browser as the page is handled. Why is that significant? Javascript can be disabled, and therefore your really modern design will work but may not perform as designed.
PHP is an open source code that is a server side language, meaning that the server that sends up the page renders the information before it hits the browser and cannot be turned off. All the joomla, blogger, etc files are built using PHP.
There are many a good resources on the internet explaining the vailidity and challenge of each so I will stop here, this is just a primer into what goes on in the developers mind when creating a web site for any client.
Overwhelmed with nonsensical phrases and pushy sales people that really don't know what they are talking about:? Internet marketing is not the enigmatic event that is sold through "specialists".
It starts with understanding what can be marketed and how best to market what you have. Trending is the direction you need to take for successful internet marketing.
